Anjali was born from the desire to create clothes for the most advanced asana practice,
as well as sophisticated enough to be worn off the mat every day.
Anjali was founded by husband and wife team Julissa Carranza and Kristinn Sigridarson,
as a way to join their two great loves; yoga and fashion design.
They first met in 1991 in New York City, when they were paired together as co-designers for a women's suit collection.
It was an office romance that resulted in a wedding four years later.
They came to yoga in 2000, in hopes of saving Julissa's life from the stress of the New York fashion industry.
It was love at first practice. It did not only save Julissa’s life but was also a gateway to new life experiences
and transformations that neither could have imagined before that first yoga class.
Two years later, after experimenting with various styles of yoga,
they walked into an Anusara Yoga Class in Montclair New jersey and knew that life would never be the same after that.
In 2005, they both completed an Anusara teacher training at that very studio in Montclair where Julissa still teaches.
After 15 years of working for some of New York’s top fashion companies,
they have paired their fashion sensibilities with their intense yoga practice demands;
to create a collection of clothes fit for the most rigorous practice
yet sleek and stylish enough to step out of the studio and be worn all day.
In 2006 anjali started working with Freespace Dance Company to create costumes
for their various dance projects. This union, between artistic vision
and high-level performance, has been extremely inspiring
and the company is currently working with Freespace on upcoming projects.
